Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero's bring the feeling of "Home" to New York City  last night with their feel good, indie-folk rock show at Roseland Ballroom.

I must say, although I frequently feel bummed about a) not being born to experience the Woodstock years and b) not being able to express my inner hipster in the muddy and sweat-filled fields of Bonnaroo each summer because I'm a broke New Yorker,  Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros concert last night fulfilled my Woodstock and Bonnaroo void as I danced in the smoke filled room alongside the happiest people in the world.
His show was an organic celebration of music, love and humanity; as lead singer, Alex Ebert, joined his fans in the middle of the floor, sitting indian style, hand in hand embracing everyone in the audience with his music.
Check out the video I took at the show below...of course, it's everyone's favorite song with Alex and Jade, "Home."

Punch Brothers Cover the Strokes

PUNCH BROTHERS. REPTILIA- STROKES COVER

Anyone who knows me, knows I am a huge fan of The Strokes... so it should come to no surprise that I'd be ecstatic when finding a cover of Reptilia by my new favorite guys of Punch Brothers.

Take a listen and tell me you aren't obsessed?
<3 Carrie

Movement and Location

In an interview with American Songwriter, vocalist and mandolinist, Chris Thile, from former group Nickelcreek, explains how the song was brought about by a famous baseball pitcher, Greg Maddux of the Chicago Cubs and his obsession with perfecting movement and location in his pitching technique. This idea of movement and location, Thile explained, related to relationships and living which was the core inspiration while creating this song on their album.
This group has the vocal essence similar to that of Coldplay, Mumford and Sons, and Radiohead, but is uniquely fused with the energetic and instrumental dexterity inspired by Bluegrass.
The Punch Brothers might just be my new favorite group. Take a listen and let me know what you think!

RIP MCA

COLDPLAY TRIBUTE TO MCA.

In the wake of The Beastie Boys’ Adam “MCA” Yauch’s passing from a hard fought battle with cancer, memorials and fan tributes emerged all throughout Internet. At the top of these tributes, Chris Martin and the men of Coldplay bring the cover “Fight For Your Right” to the forefront, at their concert at the Hollywood bowl this past weekend…fans were immediately silenced and brought to tears.

In loving memory of MFK.

My Sunday mornings usually begin with my best friend MC and coffee at my favorte coffee/wine bar in the East Village, Ost. Ost is a place where you can go and sit alone with a book, surrounded by incredible music and eclectic east village locals. a few weeks ago MC and I were sipping down our cappuccinos Catching up with one another when I heard this song. I have an autistic tick where, If I hear an amazing song come on I immediately have to google it, shazzam it or oh yes, even go to the back of the restaurant myself and ask the owner what the name of the song is. In this particular scenario, after obnoxiously waving our iphones up in the air trying to shazaam the song, MC did the honors of asking the barista what the title of the song playing was….An Artists Song, by Lost In The Trees. and I was hooked.

An Artists Song, among many of the songs on Lost In the Trees’ sophomore album, surfaces the tragic loss of lead singer, Ari Picker’s mother, who was a painter and an artist in her own right. It was the evolution of grief and the struggle of overcoming the loss of his mother from which Picker began composing, writing and creating a musical tribute devoted to her. A picture of Picker’s mother hung above his desk while producing this record, and its this picture that is now gracing the cover of his second album, A Church That Fits Our Needs.
“I wanted to give her a space, in the music, to be, and to become all the things she didn’t get a chance to be when she was alive,” Picker said.

Today, I wanted to dedicate “An Artists Song” to a dear friend of mine who lost her mother earlier this week; Maryellen was deeply loved and will be forever missed.I hope this song brings hope and strength to those grieving the loss of a loved one. May you regain your strength and faith with each new day.Love, Carrie

Whitney Wood Bailey.

a place where faith, reason, intuition & logic intersect.

My friend Whitney is an incredible artist here in New York. Her artwork is unlike anything I've ever seen before. The best way I can describe it is if you were to cut open a rock or a crystal and focus in on how the beautiful textures and colors of nature all collide into something magical. Whitney's inspiration and technique applied to her work comes from a unique place which is what I admire most about her as an artist, and as a friend.
"My work provides a field for contemplating an intersection of faith and reason with intuition and logic...The combination of the two suggests the idea of a crossroads between faith, reason, instinct, and intellect, which drives this work...This duality suggests an innate human interest in understanding the nature of the universe.  For me, this distills down to a universal human longing for the eternal, for God."
It goes without saying, this girl was given the gift of sharing something beautiful with the world, so obviously it would be an absolute sin if I did not share her work with you all!Whitney's artwork can be found in her studio located in Dumbo, Brooklyn, in addition, she has exhibitions and installations displaying her one-of-a-kind pieces all throughout the South East, Italy, France and, oh yes even Shanghai, China.
I encourage you to check out her work on her website. It's breathtaking: whitneywoodbailey.com

MIIKE SNOW.

MIIKE SNOW.
Last Thursday my friend Sofia and I went to see Miike Snow at Terminal 5. We got there early enough to get the perfect spots right in the front row, and even made a few new friends who we eventually hung out with at the Miike Snow AFTERPARTY…I know, itwas as awesome as it sounds!!  Penguin Prison opened for Miike, they weren’t terrible, but they had a little 80’s/boybandy kind of sound which I wasn’t too fond of. I don’t doubt that we’ll see one of their songs make the top Itunes list one day.
Miike opened the show with an incredible performance of Jokers Lair, the first song on his sophomore album, Happy to You. I was on an ultimate Miike Snow high the entire show, which ended with Sans Solei and Animal. Speechless. It was one of those concert experiences that left me feeling sick to my stomach after… it was thatgood. I’ve posted a few pictures and videos from the concert. Enjoy :)

SBTRKT- Webster Hall

My former coworkers introduced me to SBTRKT, a producer in the electric community recognized by his on-stage tribal masks and his  unique sound that I can best describe as a soulful blend of house, “dubstep” that all the kids are into these days and garage.
Last week I joined my old coworkers at Webster Hall for the SBTRKT show and I was blown away. I initially went into the concert semi-critical because I wasn’t as familiar with the band, but I was thoroughly impressed. The music, lights and effects throughout the show were incredible, definitely check out SBTRKT whenever they come to NYC or your nearest city.
I posted a few pictures from the night and also included my two favorite songs from SBTRKT: Wildfire and Hold On.

Kimbra- Two Way Street

Following up on my recent post from the Gotye+Kimbra concert, I wanted to share my favorite song Kimbra performed that night. Unfortunately I didn’t get a usable video from the show, but here’s a video of her live in-studio recording of Two Way Street.

**Her album in not released in the US yet, so this song isn’t even available on Itunes or anywhere as far as I know. Enjoy the sneak peek of what’s to come for Kimbra and her upcoming album.
Cheers!

Gote&Kimbra- Terminal 5

Gotye received overnight notoriety for his fan-favorite song recently featured on Glee, Somebody that I Used to Know. This month, he and opening act, Kimbra, touched down in NYC with an unforgettable concert at Terminal 5… and yep, I was there shoulder to shoulder with crazed fans on the floor soaking in each and every second of it!
If you missed the full Gotye-Kimbra experience, enjoy the pictures and videos I posted from the show. I apologize in advance a) for the terrible video quality and b) for the screaming and annoying girl singing in the background…who may or may not be me….lol.
Bronte and Eyes Wide Open were my favorite songs of the night so be sure to watch the videos I posted ;)

Happy Monday

Tommy & the High Pilots: Where to Start
Found this song through a random music blog; I absolutely love it. Definitley a motivator for the first cold October morning in New York. Yep, fall is here & I couldn't be happier!
Message me if you have the perfect song to kick-start your work week! At the end of any bad day, if anything, we have music to pick us back up right?
Cheers!

Back Up Plan

I've decided, if my future plan of becoming Ryan Seacreast's co-host at the Emmy's and America Top 40 show fails, I found a back up plan.
Granted, I would have to wear gloves on my off-hours and wouldn't be able to cook, clean, or do anything that would pose significant damage to my hands, however I am thinking the pro's to being a hand model certainly outweigh the cons. No?

Keep It on Repeat.

Jason Mraz "Plane"
One of my favorite songs ever. The lyrics in this song are so cryptic, it drives me crazy, but I'm obsessed. I also found an acoustic version I posted that's equally as hot, and by hot I am definitely referring to Jason Mraz..."damn." (listen to the song you'll get it.)
All i have to say is, the next man who can sing this song to me while effortlessly playing on the guitar, I'm marrying. No joke.

Oh no Dawson, really?

Apparently today is the 10th year anniversary of Dawson's overly dramatic scene with his on-screen love, Joey Potter (Katie Holmes).
I was never a big Dawson's Creek fan growing up, each episode always seemed unnecessarily emotional and depressing, however, I came across this picture while I was browsing around on the old world wide web and I literally have been laughing ALL day at this picture.
Ordinarily I'd feel really embarassed for James Van Der Beek (the guy who plays Dawson) for having this terrible crying-scene follow him around for the rest of his life, however, he managed to overcome the humiliation...with this creative little website. Check it out

Keep It on Repeat.

I usually have a personal song of the week I get obsessed with that I keep on repeat for...oh about a week until it's been obnoxiously out-played. This week's song on repeat is "Heartbeats" by The Knife.
Jose Gonzales does a pretty legitimate cover of the song, but the Knife's single takes the cake for me.
Thoughts?

Dedicated to "the Carrie's"

Keri Hilson's new single, "Pretty Girl" celebrates the awesomeness of the "Carrie's" out there in the universe so let's Pause and take a moment to pay tribute to the "Carrie's."
I actually met Keri Hilson last year at MTV for an interview and she's a sweet heart + ridiculously talented. Love you Keri, even if you spell your name incorrectly!

Best of 2010. Willie Geist, Willie You Marry Me?

Anyone who knows me is aware of my obsession with Willie Geist, host of "Way too Early" & "Morning Joe" on NBC. My relationship with Willie is complicated because his show comes on at 5am, but if you took one look at this man, you'd wake up at 5 in the morning to watch his show too. Not only is Willie ridiculously attractive, but he knows his stuff. I love this man.
I figured it'd be an apropriate way to honor all the mornons leading our government in 2010 by sharing Willie's "Best of 2010" moments in the news. Cheers!

Keep It on Repeat.

This week I am getting real emo with Stars', "Your Ex-Lover is Dead." Stars is a Canadian local indie band that never got the proper recognition in the US, but are amazing in my opinion.
I sang this song in highschool with my friends band at Electric Gumbo and fell in love with it from then on. This song, hands down is EPIC as far as I'm concerned. Enjoy!

Sweets in the City

As if an average  restaurant wasn't awesome enough, my boss took me to Max Brenners Chocolate Restaurant in Union Square to celebrate my first week at work! Make a reservation the next time you're in New York, and I promise,  Max Brenner's will make your trip even sweeter!!!

Keep It on Repeat.

Beach House "Silver Soul"
Last week I met friends at "Terroir," a small wine bar in the East Village, and the Beach House album "Teen Dream"came on. Honestly the last time I listened to Beach House was freshman year of college, sitting on a plaid couch surrounded by stoners, beer cans and Radiohead posters. I knew I recognized the song, but couldn't for the life of me remember who the artist was. It always drives me crazy when I have a song stuck in my head and can't, for the life of me figure out who the artist is.... so one week later, I finally figured it out woohooo!!  I've decided to post this little blast from the past for all to enjoy. Cheers to the good old days.

Big Move Up To NYC!

One week after graduating from Auburn, I decided to take my chances and jump on a  Grey Hound up to New York City in search of a job(notice the 1 suitcase...impressive huh?!) Although I was scared as ever, the thought of being independent, and moving to a new place inspired me. I was excited for a fresh start and new opportunities in the Big Apple!

My wonderful and rather generous friend, Riley, invited me to crash with her in her apartment so of course, I had to accept the offer.  Below are pictures of our cute little apartment in the Theatre District...and Riley threw me a welcome home party!

Keep It on Repeat.

This week's song on repeat is Miike Snow's "Animal" remix.
The video is totally absurd, but I can appreciate the production quality for sure!
What do you think?

I'm Featured in Tiger Tales this Month!

Thanks for not forgetting about me Auburn! I'll see you in the Fall when our boys bring their A-game to Jordan-Hare Stadium. War Eagle! Tiger Tales Article!

It's been 3 weeks since graduation, and although I may just be the luckiest girl in the world; landing a job working with MTV, Comedy Central and Spike TV in New York City, I can't help but miss those "War Eagle" moments on the Plains at Auburn University. "Out of sight, out of mind" was a concept I was not looking forward to as years accumulated as Auburn graduate, however, I was surprised to see a feature story in the Tiger Tales magazine issue this month

Carrie Williams for Your First Ever MTV TJ!

As some of you may know, I recently moved up to New York City in pursuit of a career in TV Production/ Journalism. Despite most opposition to my relentless desire to move the city, I stuck with it and moved up here anyways.

It's been one week that I've spent in Manhattan so far, and I. Am. Obsessed.
I love the city, the hustle and bustle and the OPPORTUNITY just waiting for me at the beginning of each and every day.

And opportunity is exactly what I encountered this afternoon. I came across a twitter update about MTV's new search for their first-ever TJ.

If you're wondering what a TJ is, it's basically a 2010 version of what Carson Daily was as a VJ (Video Jockey) for MTV in the 90's, but similarly, the TJ position places an emphasis on the world of social media.

Of course, you know me, I am going for it with no regrets. If all else fails, at least I tried right?

Here are 3 reasons why I believe I should be the FIRST MTV TJ:

#1. I am a true MTV girl.
Grew up with MTV as a kid. Watched the evolution of MTV throughout the years. I watched as "VJ's" captivated MTV audiences around the world, and now my dream, is to have that same influence on my contemporaries through the social media as MTV's first-ever TJ!

#2. Experience.

A) I JUST graduated from Auburn University, receiving my Bachelors degree in Broadcast Journalism and Public Administration.

B) I am a journalist, TV producer and social media fanatic.

C) I've worked for MTV before! Yes, that's right, I've been the few and lucky to actually step foot into the Viacom building, to eat in the ever-famous Lodge and work for MTV productions as a Production Assistant and Intern!

#3. I live in New York!

Ironic as it may be, I JUST moved to my new apartment in Manhattan last week! I decided to move to the big city and take my chances searching for my dream job so who would have thought the MTV TJ job would be such a perfect opportunity to fall in my lap! It seems like it was meant to be right?!

Help me become MTV's FIRST EVER TJ!
